Dr. Sreenivas Alampalli, Technical Consultant and CEO of Alampalli Engineering, PLLC , has more than 35 years of experience in infrastructure management and research. He is world renowned for his expertise in infrastructure inspection and evaluation, asset management, structural monitoring and technology transfer efforts, and his passion for bridging the gap between state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice.

Sreenivas  retired from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) in 2020 as the Director of the Structures Management Bureau, where he managed one of the largest structural inspection and management programs in the United States, with an annual budget of about $100 million/year, to facilitate preservation, integrity, and safety of bridge and other structural infrastructure in New York State. During his tenure at NYSDOT, he worked together with researchers, industry, and owners in development and implementation of innovative technologies to assure effective infrastructure management at reasonable costs. He led the information technology project to transform and integrate several software programs used for structures inspection, inventory, evaluation, and asset management, that resided on legacy platforms, to online web-based integrated system. These efforts included funding acquisition, scope development, software development, and testing, and implementation. This system is currently used, by 3000+ personnel, for all NYS structures including bridges, large culverts, and overhead sign structures. Data is made available to all stakeholders seamlessly on as-needed basis.

After public sector experience, Sreenivas was with Stantec Consulting Services as a Senior Principal -Transportation for four years working and developing business in the areas of bridge inspection, structural monitoring, and asset management. He was the Project Manager for the inspection of Governor Mario M. Cuomo cable stayed bridges in New York during 2024 and 2025 for New York State Thruway Authority. He also conducted several load tests for CT DOT, worked on asset management and structural monitoring projects for agencies such as MTA Bridges and Tunnels, NYSDOT, Long Island Railroad, and Halifax Harbour Bridges.

Sreenivas obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering and MBA in Management and Technology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; master’s from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur; and bachelor’s in civil engineering from Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati. He is very active with professional societies, a Fellow of Society for Civil Structural health Monitoring (SCSHM/ISHMII) and American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), and a Distinguished Member of American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE)

Sreenivas has received numerous awards, including the ASCE OPAL Award for lifetime contributions to public sector, Aftab Mufti Lifetime Achievement Award in Civil Structural Health Monitoring from SCSHM/ISHMII, Bridge NDT Lifetime Service Award from ASNT, ASCE Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award, and ASCE Henry L. Michel Award for Industry Advancement of Research.
